Councillor John Hamm

Do you ever wonder – "What am I going to do when I grow up?”   I am certain someone out there is going to say – That will never happen to you!  That could be because I have enjoyed a very exciting and diverse working experience ranging from terms of Voluntary Service to becoming a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter and licensed Home Inspector as well as having a successful sales career travelling Canada as an Account Manager for a Canadian software company with offices in Winnipeg and Montreal.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, camping, quading, pleasure riding and pack tripping with horses, tending to my ranch, and travelling.  A recent trip to El Salvador to build houses with Shelter Canada has given a greater purpose to travelling by meeting the needs of people much less fortunate than ourselves.

I have participated in the community and different organizations over the years – Municipal Planning Commission for the Town of Three Hills, Blue Bronna Wilderness Camping Association Board, and the Mount Olive Church Council.  Other experiences during my time in Three Hills include building and remodelling a number of homes, operating residential rental properties, as well as a Self-Storage facility and renting and selling containers.

My wife, Susan, and I moved our family to Three Hills from Thompson, MB, in July 1996.   We did not have a long term plan for how long we would stay, other than to have a good school for our elementary and high school-aged daughters to attend.  They have long since graduated and we enjoy having most of our family living right here in Three Hills.  I think we can safely say that we are here for the long term.  Now that I am retired from my sales career as of the end of December 2017, "I am ready to work for you!”

Being newly elected to the Town Council in October 2017, I have a desire to officially promote our community in particular through economic growth.  Three Hills are equipped with many amenities which would be very attractive for businesses to set up shop and to meet the needs of the families that come along with those businesses.  There are opportunities to tap into a variety of Recreational, Tourism, Arts, Conference and Educational venues.  Three Hills is a hidden gem of the prairies.
